The Blues Reaction

The Blues Reaction began in February 2002 when Pete Willsher advertised his wares as a bass player on the internet. This was spotted by Graham and following a brief meeting they got together to build the foundations of a band. Primarily it was to promote Graham's solo CD "Beat The Blooze" but also include blues rock material by some of the great guitar players in their repertoire, with Graham's wish that all songs in the set vary in style and tempo. With Pete's rock influences and staggering bass runs, Graham had found the ideal partner. Several months were spent trying to get their first drummer Dave Brookes to commit to regular rehearsal. Brookes' many other ongoing projects however, prevented the band getting together more than once every few weeks.

With uncertainties abounding, the band could not arrange gigs confidently, so it was early in 2003 that Gary Cates stepped in to help. Gary, a friend of Pete's, had played a session with the band the previous year and Pete had worked with him before. A couple of rehearsals and a gig later, Gary came on board. His humour and style of playing suited the band but after twelve months, his commitments outside the band meant him having to leave. On the advice of a friend, Graham gave Patrick Ross a call. Patrick had played briefly in a band Graham was forming back in 1973.

Patrick's style and passion for rock and blues helps make The Blues Reaction a powerful three piece band. Many have said it's hard to believe that it's only a three piece band as Graham's depth of sound gives such a full sound that's often missing from three piece line ups. As Graham at times strays off the structured path into improvisation, Patrick is there as the band fly off to other levels while still maintaining control and balance. It was said at Patricks first gig with the band that it sounded as if he'd been with them for years. A fine testament to his playing and talent.
